SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND LIVELIHOOD
Skill Development Programm
CARDS successfully trained 30 master trainers for two months for producing high quality bamboo products with the financial assistance of NABARD in Pendra Block of Bilashpur Distt. from capacity building to entrepreneurship, in Bilaspur district. Available Land for farming is decreasing day by day, dependence on monsoons, lack of irrigation facilities , lack of awareness for new farming techniques and equipments has resulted in families showing disinterest in farming activities, which in other words is a threat to the nation, especially in the state the situation is more worse, resulting in movement of members of family to other states , making women members all alone to handle the land, also production capacity of land decreases if not taken proper care, which in turn results in low income, lack of basic facilities, this forced organization like NABARD to initiate with a project of skill development as a non farming activity, and CARDS was the organization given the opportunity to be a part of the mission, with an objective to give non farming sector a new direction.
After a base line survey in the operational areas of the organization, we realized that the villagers possesed the required skill for being an artisan and possessed interest in learing the new skill of bamboo art, Therefore CARDS approached the NABARD office with an objective to initiate a project focusing on the skill development aspect of the beneficiaries, focused study brought out the implementation of a training programme , for 30 artisans on bamboo craft, in which the major activities was not only to give training to the artisans but also to assist them in marketing their products by coordinating with banks and forming linkages with them. After the successful conduction of this programme, the story was repeated in other blocks of CG Services of skilled trainer were hired for the fulfillment of objective.Interest of the beneficiaries were remarkable, a close monitoring was done by NABARD team to scrutinize the progress.Bank officials were also invited to motivate the artisans and create hope of setting up of market for their products after completion of training programme, Today there are number of queries, which are attended by CARDS office, in which many interested artisans clear their doubts about the craft programme, its market, facilities by bank and upcoming training programmes.
The status of the artisans after completion of skill development programme has become good and their source of living has increased as a result of this programme. They are now having an added source of income after this programme because now they are selling their finished products in local markets as well as orders put up by their relatives who are in need of it. These changes have drastically come after they got training and with the help of this programme they learned a lot of things in their life. CARDS is also a partner with Textile ministry of Government of India for Skill Development Programme with Bamboo Artisans and is working with 25 bamboo workers of Self Help Groups, in Ambikapur District. This activity is focused on strengthening the rural economy based on available recourses and traditional occupational pattern with complete rural based marketing by linking to the available recourses and trends.
